Product info

AEG m150 (Mercury one2one)

The phone is in good condition and has been fully checked and is supplied with a  battery and a used, but good condition mains charger. The phone is very rare for a phone 16 yrs + old, and would make an ideal retro gift. The phone operates on 1800MHZ in the UK (T Mobile/Virgin) or any GSM 1800MHZ network abroad. The phone  may require additional unlocking for use abroad. The phone as you can see from the picturese is fully operational as of 07/09/09.

Please note: Due to the age of used batteries we cannot offer any form of warranty with them. They can be up to 10 years old. We check that the battery powers up the phone but have now way of testing how long the battery will perform for. We therefore recommend to get the best performance from your phone is to purchase a new battery. We do not supply them.

History

On 7th September 1993, one2one, a then subsidiary of Cable and Wireless plc and MediaOne International launched its mobile phone network in London, having 100000 subscribers by June 1994. Over the next few years, the network grew both in coverage and usage due to its famous 'Who would you like to have a one-to-one with?' advertising campaign. In October 1999, Deutsche Telekom AG bought one2one for £8.4 billion, making the company a subsidiary of T-Mobile International. Recently, one2one embarked on a joint venture with Virgin Group plc to form Virgin Mobile.

Originally coverage was strictly limited to within the M25 but recently this has been extended in the South East and now also covers the West Midlands and City Centre coverage in Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and Southampton. It must be said that even with these additions coverage is currently much less than with the other networks.

Update: Mercury have recently awarded a major (£235 million) contract to the cellular manufacturer Ericsson. The terms of the contract aim to give Mercury one2one national coverage by the end of 1997. The coverage will be expanded to 60% of the population by the end of 1996, culminating in 90% by the end of 1997.
